Erectile dysfunction can affect men at different stages of life and may be influenced by circulation, hormonal changes, medications, or underlying health conditions. Tadalafil offers a clinically established approach to improving erectile function, with treatment options that can be tailored to individual needs and lifestyles.
Difficulty getting or maintaining an erection can affect sexual satisfaction, confidence, and intimate relationships. Tadalafil improves blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation, helping men achieve and maintain erections sufficient for sexual activity.
For some men, planning sexual activity around medication timing can feel restrictive. Tadalafil offers a longer duration of action, with effects lasting up to 36 hours after an as-needed oral dose. This provides greater flexibility for intimacy without requiring sexual activity immediately after taking the medication.
Erectile function can change over time due to factors such as cardiovascular health, diabetes, medications, and hormonal fluctuations. Tadalafil addresses the blood-flow component of erectile dysfunction, while a comprehensive medical evaluation can help identify other factors influencing sexual health.
Erectile dysfunction can affect more than physical performance, influencing confidence, sexual satisfaction, and intimate relationships. Tadalafil helps improve erectile function during sexual stimulation, offering a treatment option for men looking to feel more confident and comfortable with intimacy.

Frequently Asked Questions
Tadalafil is a medication commonly used to treat erectile dysfunction. It helps improve blood flow to the penis, making it easier to achieve and maintain an erection when sexual stimulation occurs. Tadalafil does not directly increase sexual desire. If the main concern is low libido rather than difficulty with erections, Fountain looks at other possible contributors such as hormones, medications, stress, mood, sleep, and overall health.
Timing depends on the dose and whether tadalafil is prescribed for as-needed or daily use. When taken as needed, tadalafil has a relatively long duration of action compared with some other erectile-dysfunction medications, with effects potentially supporting erectile response for up to approximately 36 hours. That does not mean an erection lasts for 36 hours. It means the medication can support erectile response during that window when sexual stimulation occurs.
Tadalafil can be prescribed either as a lower daily dose or taken as needed before sexual activity. Daily tadalafil provides more consistent medication coverage and can allow for greater spontaneity because dosing does not need to be timed around sex. As-needed tadalafil may be a better fit for people who prefer to take medication only when they anticipate needing it. The best approach depends on your symptoms, frequency of sexual activity, other medications, medical history, and how you respond to treatment.
Common side effects can include headache, flushing, indigestion, nasal congestion, back discomfort, and muscle aches. Most side effects are mild and temporary, but certain symptoms require urgent medical attention, including chest pain, sudden changes in vision or hearing, or an erection lasting more than four hours. If side effects are persistent or bothersome, let your clinician know so the dose or treatment plan can be reassessed.
Tadalafil is not appropriate for everyone and should be prescribed only after reviewing your medical history, blood pressure, cardiovascular health, and current medications. It should not be combined with nitrate medications such as nitroglycerin because the combination can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure. Certain other medications can also interact with tadalafil, which is why a full medication review is important before starting treatment.
